Privacy Policy

Version 2026-09-09. This notice explains what personal data KIKIN processes, why, the lawful bases we rely on, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

KIKIN is the controller of the personal data described in this notice. For any privacy question, contact hello@kikin.app. Account holders can also use Settings → Legal & Safety → Data & Privacy, which raises a case with our team.

Account and profile information

Lawful basis: contract — we need this to give you a KIKIN account.

  • Name or username and display name.
  • Email address and, for social sign-in, the identifier returned by Apple or Google.
  • Profile information such as username, display name, date of birth, location and profile photo, plus community profile images and banners.
  • Preferences such as language, country and matching filters.

Google and Apple sign-in data

When you choose Google or Apple sign-in, KIKIN receives the account identifier needed to recognise your account and the profile information that provider makes available to us, such as your email address and name. We use it only to create, secure and sign you into your KIKIN account, connect that sign-in to your KIKIN profile and prevent abuse. KIKIN does not use Google or Apple account data for advertising and does not request access to your contacts, files, photos or other provider services.

Content you create and share

Lawful basis: contract, so we can deliver the feature you are using; and legitimate interests in keeping the platform safe.

  • Messages, community posts and comments.
  • Uploaded images, videos and clips, GIFs, memes and voice notes.
  • Poll creation and poll voting activity.
  • Friends lists and friend requests.
  • Referral source and the public profile or Room link used to reach KIKIN, where a shared link contains an attribution code.

Safety, reports and moderation

Lawful basis: legitimate interests in protecting users and, where relevant, legal obligation.

  • Reports you make and reports made about you.
  • Moderation decisions, community bans, suspension history and appeals.
  • Records needed to stop suspended or banned accounts from matching again.

Device, security and technical data

Lawful basis: legitimate interests in security, fraud prevention and keeping the service reliable.

  • Device and browser information, approximate location derived from IP address where applicable.
  • IP address, sign-in events, authentication tokens and security logs.
  • Technical logs, crash reports and connection quality diagnostics for video calls.
  • Short-lived sign-in diagnostics stored on your device to help complete or troubleshoot authentication.

Camera, microphone and video chat

Camera and microphone are only used with your device permission and while you use camera or voice features. Live video and audio are transmitted between participants in real time to deliver a call. Optional beauty and fun filters process facial landmarks on your device to place or tune effects; KIKIN does not use that processing to identify you. Lawful basis: contract, and your device-level consent for camera and microphone access.

Payments, VIP, coins and gifts

Lawful basis: contract, and legal obligation for financial record-keeping.

  • VIP subscription status, billing period, renewal and cancellation state.
  • Coin balances, virtual gift transactions and purchase history.
  • Eligible account suspension unlock payments and their status.
  • Payment card details are handled by our payment provider; KIKIN does not store full card numbers.

Data storage and security

KIKIN stores account and service data with contracted hosting, database and storage providers. We use access controls, authentication, encrypted network connections and server-side permission checks designed to protect data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please keep your sign-in details secure and report suspected account misuse.

Cookies and similar technologies

Essential cookies keep you signed in and secure. Analytics and marketing technologies are only used with your consent, which you can give, refuse or withdraw at any time in Cookie Settings. Lawful basis: consent for optional cookies; legitimate interests for essential ones.

Who we share data with

We share only what is needed, under contract, and never sell your personal data.

  • Hosting and infrastructure providers who run our servers, database and storage.
  • Authentication providers (Apple, Google) when you choose social sign-in.
  • Payment providers who process subscriptions and purchases.
  • Safety and moderation tools where used, and Community Owners/Moderators who see reports and content inside their own community only.
  • Law enforcement or regulators where we are legally required to, or to protect someone from serious harm.

International transfers

Some providers process data outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement/Addendum with appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep data

We keep account and profile data while your account exists. When you delete your account we remove or anonymise personal data, except where we must keep limited records — for example safety and ban records to stop banned users returning, and financial records required by law — which are kept only as long as necessary.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • Give you access to a copy of your personal data.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete your personal data (the right to erasure).
  • Restrict how we use your data in certain circumstances.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Provide your data in a portable format where applicable.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent, such as optional cookies.

How to exercise your rights

Use Settings → Legal & Safety → Data & Privacy to request a copy of your data, ask for a correction, request deletion or send a privacy enquiry. You can permanently delete your account from the same settings area. You may also contact hello@kikin.app. Requests create a case for KIKIN administration and we respond within one month, as required by law.

Children and age requirements

KIKIN is for people aged 18 and over and is not intended for children. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to hold an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we may remove it and associated personal data, subject to safety and legal retention requirements.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or to your local supervisory authority. We would appreciate the chance to resolve it with you first.

Staying safe

Avoid sharing passwords, payment details, your home address or other sensitive information in calls, messages or community posts.
